8. Weekend Getaways
Pack your bag, grab the cooler and hit the road. In most cases a beach day will only cost you gas, ice, maybe a bridge toll and some sunscreen! Living near the beach gives you an advantage to indulge in weekend "stay-cations" Take a day trip or spend the weekend on one of our boat only islands!
7. Shelling and Sharks Teeth
Englewood, Venice and Boca Grande beaches have some of the highest numbers of fossilized sharks teeth. Varying from black to tan in color, these sharks teeth wash up in shell piles all along our coast line. Its a popular beach find for all ages.
6. Fishing & Free Diving
Our waters are home to a variety of species. Using live bait or lures our anglers are often pretty successful from our shore lines. Many anglers enjoy catching flounder in the shallows along the sandy bottoms. They make a delicious fresh meal. Stretching along our shallow beaches and sandbars are natural rock reefs. Great for snorkelers or spear fishermen to explore.
5. Sunsets... Sunrise isn't bad either
Florida is known for its stunning sky. Sunrise and sunsets are some of the most colorful in the country. Planning your morning stroll or jog along the beach during these times are peaceful. Englewood Beach offers "sunrise yoga" to take in the views.
4. Wellness, mind and body
A recent study showed that, even discounting factors like age and economic factors, people who live by the sea are healthier than those who live away from the coast. Sea air encourages respiratory health, while sun exposure (with a healthy coating of SPF) is great for getting your daily dose of Vitamin D. Swimming in saltwater also speeds healing, and boosts circulation.
3. You never get bored of the view
Seriously, same day same place you will discover something new every time you visit. A new sea shell or fish you catch. The views are breathtaking and change with the seasons, yet some how are always breathtaking. No social media filters needed.
2. Get FIT
Did you know that a leisurely swim can burn nearly 200 calories? Walking on sand stimulates the 200,000+ nerve endings on the soles of your feet. You need 1.6-2.5 times more mechanical effort than walking on a flat surface at the same speed. You can cancel your gym membership and put that cash towards more swimwear.
1. A good nights sleep
Ever wonder why you are so tired after a day at the beach? Coastal air is a bit different. It is charged with negative ions that allow the body to more easily absorb oxygen. Medical studies show the result is that serotonin levels are more equalized. This can improve your mood and decrease your stress level. It can also help you to sleep more deeply and peacefully at night.
